The X5 is s pretty good car but the driveline doesn’t age so well. Transmissions are good for $100k and the engines have little things like intake manifold gaskets failing on a routine basis. This makes the E53 X5 pretty affordable. Just not reliable. So this owner yanked out the BMW engine and swapped in a Turbo LS setup. He also moved the radiator to the rear seat and installed a fuel cell and a ton of tubing. The full list of mods and parts is pretty extensive for the $12,500 asking price. Here’s the complete run down:
2002 BMW X5 Turbo LS swap
Body has 190,000, Clean Title
It’s currently tuned for 11psi on E85 with 13.5 degrees of timing and 5psi on 91 octane with 20 degrees of timing. Both tunes are very safe as it was meant for dirt and snow runs. The SUV is setup to get the crap beaten out of it and drive it to work the next day. I just got the thing done about a month ago give or take. It took a full year out of my life building it before and after working 40 plus hours a week. I am buying a house in April and really would like to free up some more funds.
